Education Guys: Guide to Technical Education

Culinary Arts Schools

Culinary arts professionals can find many entry-level positions that they can pursue without a formal education, but it will always be more helpful in giving people the education that they need, no matter what that might be. Those who have degrees in culinary arts will likely work as chefs, sous chefs, pastry chefs, prep cooks, kitchen assistants, catering professionals, and related positions. The duties that are performed in these positions include preparing food, storing food, serving and plating food, helping with other duties in the kitchen, creating recipes, following recipes, and similar tasks that are expected of cooking professionals. There is no requirement for certification or licensure on a nationwide basis, nor do the states require professionals to obtain a certificate or license to do their job. The degree is what proves the skills of these professionals, and those who have more education will see more career opportunities. Culinary arts professionals are well compensated in most cases, with the salary for sous chefs and kitchen assistants ranging between $30,000 and $50,000 on average. Executive chefs, catering business owners, and the like will easily average $60,000 annually for their skills, depending on their experience and job title. The culinary arts industry has been steadily growing for some years now, and it will continue to see a steady increase in available jobs into the next 10 years.
